Orchardton Tower

Orchardton Tower is a free-standing round tower house, the only one of its type in Scotland, and dates back to the middle of the 15th century. John Cairns built it 200 years after circular towers had given way to the new fashion of square and rectangular towers.

The tower sits a 30-minute walk or 5-minute drive away from the centre of Palnackie and has a small car park. It is free to visit and has interpretation boards that explain how it was used by its residents. Spiral stairs within the 1.8m (6ft) thick wall lead to a wall-walk at the top, from where there are great views across the countryside and farmland outside Palnackie.
